Jana Kramer opened up about one of the reasons she delayed leaving her ex-husband.
The country star, actress, author and podcast host shared a vulnerable discussion with journalist Alison Kosik on a recent episode of Whine Down with Jana Kramer. Kramer and her husband, Scottish former soccer player Allan Russell, spoke with Koenig about anxiety when it comes to money, particularly as people leave long-term relationships.
āThis is actually really sad to admit this,ā Kramer said. She shared in a clip from the podcast posted on Instagram: āOne of the reasons I stayed, you know, for longer than I should ā yes, the kids, and everything else ā but I didnāt want to loseā¦I made the money in the marriage. And so, I knew he was going to go after it because we didnāt have a prenup. And so I was scared that he ā which he ended up taking. But, you know, it was one of those where I was, I didnāt want to lose the money that I worked for, and that he would take it all.ā
Kramer, 41, was married to ex-husband Mike Caussin, 38, from 2015 to 2021. They share two children together, daughter Jolie, 9, and Jace, 6. Kramer has since welcomed Baby No. 3, her first with Russell, 44. Son Roman James was born in November 2023. Kramer and Russell got married in an intimate wedding at Carnell Estate in Scotland on July 13, 2024; however, they recently revealed on the podcast that āwe got married in January [2024] and we made it formal in July.ā
Russell asked Kosik the advice sheād share to women going through a divorce. Kosnik replied: āMake sure youāve got some available credit. Youāve got to have a credit card in your name. Make sure, if you know youāre going down that road, youāve got to build up your credit score. Just as a proverbial plan B, just in case you need to take out a loan or something like that. Make sure you have access to cash in your own name so you can pay your attorney and cover expenses if thereās a chance that your husband were to just cut you off.ā
