"Fastest Woman On Four Wheels" Killed In Jet-Car Crash!

Automotive legend, racer, and TV personality Jessi Combs died Tuesday in a crash when she was attempting to break her own land-speed record in Oregon's Alvord Desert. She was just 39.

She she appeared on many television shows including included Overhaulin' and Mythbusters, and co-hosted the Spike TV show Xtreme 4x4 for more than 90 episodes from 2005 to 2009.

The deadly crash happened when Combs was at the wheel of a jet-powered land-speed car on a dry lake bed. The course is the location where several land-speed records have been set.

Combs was called the "fastest woman on four wheels" after going a record-setting 398 mph in 2013. Then she drove that same car to 483 mph in a practice run in 2018, although she didn't complete that run due to mechanical issues.

Videos have surfaced claiming to be reported footage of the crash that killed Combs but I won't post any of them here.

“Mythbusters” star Kari Byron, who Combs filled in for several times, tweeted, “So sad to hear about Jessi. She was a badass. Always pushing limits. Sending smiles into the universe for her.”

Jay Leno tweeted. "In memory of the fastest woman on four wheels. Your memory lives on,"

“Mythbusters” star Adam Savage tweeted, “I’m so so sad, Jessi Combs has been killed in a crash. She was a brilliant & top-notch builder, engineer, driver, fabricator, and science communicator, & strove every day to encourage others by her prodigious example. She was also a colleague, and we are lesser for her absence.”
