I was always told that China is on the other side of the globe from us. Actually, I was told that while growing up in the lower 48, not here in Alaska. Turns out, nobody on the North American continent lives opposite of China. We live opposite of the middle of the Indian Ocean. In fact, there's very little land in North America that's opposite of any land at all. The notable exception would be the north slope, which is opposite of portions of Antarctica! So, if you ARE digging a hole, don't have your Chinese - English dictionary with you, it won't do you any good! :-)
